Second Annual Chip Miller Charitable Foundation 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness for Amyloidosis

October 18, 2008, 9AM at Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle, PA.

Monday, October 13, 2008

CARLISLE – The Chip Miller Charitable Foundation (CMCF) will hold its second annual awareness walk/run in support of those afflicted with amyloidosis and in remembrance of Chip Miller, who passed away from the disease in March 2004. Amyloidosis is a very rare and potentially fatal disease with no cure. Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal proteins called amyloids build up in the body’s organs attacking the heart, liver, kidneys, spleen and nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. Treatment options are available but early detection is essential to stopping or slowing the overproduction of amyloid protein.

Last year’s event helped to raise over $3,500 for the CMCF. Door prizes will once again be a part of this year’s event along with metals for the top female and male finisher overall and the top two male and female in the 13 & under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over category.

Local supporting sponsors include Orrstown Bank, Boyer & Ritter and Cumberland Design. Cost for pre-registration is $15. Race day registration is $20. For sponsorship opportunities, please contact Evelyn Menges. All proceeds will benefit the CMCF. The CMCF is also receiving the support of Karl Robinson from the Carlisle Running Club for organizing and managing the event.

The CMCF was formed after the passing of Chip Miller to raise money and much needed awareness for this disease. Evelyn Menges, daughter of Chip Miller says “my dad still may be with us today if he was diagnosed correctly when he first became symptomatic. Unfortunately, he wasn’t diagnosed until December of 2003 and passed away in March of 2004. Our primary goal is education and awareness of amyloidosis. If we can save at least one person’s life, my dad would be very proud and very happy.”

Chip Miller was a renowned car-hobbyist and is well known for starting Carlisle Events with partner Bill Miller. Carlisle Events is the world’s largest presenter of collector car, truck and motorcycle events for the entire family.

If you would like to help in our overall effort to raise money and awareness for amyloidosis, please visit our web site, chipmiller.org for more information and to register.
